Weddings

If you are engaged to be married then may we wish you many congratulations! Churches are special places and a church wedding offers so much for the big day and the couple, which you can’t get anywhere else. A church wedding adds a spiritual dimension to your marriage too, and includes God’s blessing for your new married life together. Your vows are made publicly such that your church and your supporting friends and family are there to help support you in the years to come. We are here to guide you through the whole process and create a wedding service to be personal, meaningful, spiritual and beautiful, just as you want it to be.

Who can get married at St Mary’s Church?

If you live in the Parish of Bowdon you automatically qualify to be married in St. Mary’s Church. If not, you can still be married here if you fulfil any one of the following criteria:

  • Be on the Electoral Roll of the parish church, usually after being a regular worshipper here and attending services for at least 6 months in St. Mary’s, St. Luke’s or Zone 2.
  • Or be able to establish a Qualifying Connection with Bowdon Parish Church.

Qualifying Connections are as follows:

  • One or more partners have lived at any time in the parish for a period of 6 months or more, or were baptised or confirmed in the parish, or have at any time regularly gone to church services in the parish for a period of 6 months
  • Or at least one of your parents, at any time after you were born, have lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or has regularly gone to church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months.
  • Or one of your parents or grandparents was married in the parish.
