Funerals

If someone you know and love has died, a funeral led by our clergy can be held in church, in a churchyard or at a crematorium. Our clergy will be to support you every step of the way before and after the funeral service. A Church of England funeral service is an opportunity for family and friends to express their grief and to remember and celebrate a life in a way that gives great comfort and hope. A service in church gives more time and space, and varied options for music, both traditional and contemporary, and other elements, as well as the accompaniment of our choir and organist if desired. Our clergy will meet your family to discuss all your requirements such that the funeral service is tailored to your needs and preferences.

Next of kin should first contact their chosen Funeral Director and simply speak to them about a service with a Church of England minister. Note that the churchyard at St. Mary’s is closed for burials in new graves, however, burials are permitted in an existing family plot if space is available.

Burials of ashes following a cremation is always possible in our Garden of Remembrance for residents of the parish of Bowdon and an inscription can be added to the memorial stones.
