St Mary’s

Choral tradition in a historic church

Sunday mornings

Services are at 10am

Sunday mornings at St Mary’s are usually Holy Communion services following Common Worship, where we share word and sacrament in a traditional setting accompanied by the choir. On the Second Sundays of the month, we join for Morning Worship.

What to expect
  • There will be someone to greet you as you arrive. They will hand you a printed service booklet and a hymn book
  • We sit in pews. The church bells ring and the organist plays before the service begins
  • There are children’s activity bags available. There is a toilet with a baby-changing table at the back of the church
  • We join with Zone 2 in the Parish Centre next door for refreshments after the service
  • School stamps are available at the end of the services

Sunday evenings

Services are at 6:30pm

Sunday evenings at St Mary’s are a rich combination of psalms, canticles, hymns and prayers. Both quietly contemplative and a rousing spiritual encounter, it is an excellent opportunity to hear our choir in action! We usually follow the Book of Common Prayer.

What to expect
  • There will be someone to greet you as you arrive. They will hand you either a service book or a printed service booklet, and a hymn book
  • We sit in the choir stalls near the altar, alongside the choir, except for the Second Sundays of the month where we sit in the nave (the body of the church). The church bells ring and the organist plays before the service begins.
  • School stamps are available at the end of the services

Wednesday mornings

Services are at 11:30am

Wednesday mornings at St Mary’s are simple, said services of Holy Communion, following the Book of Common Prayer.

What to expect
  • We sit in the choir stalls near the altar, where there will be printed service booklets laid out
  • We join in the church’s vestry for tea & coffee after the service
  • School stamps are available at the end of the services

Joint Services

On the fifth Sunday of each month, and for particular Holy Days and festivals, Bowdon Parish joins together in one joint service held at St Mary’s Church. On these days, no morning service takes place at St Luke’s or Zone 2.

These services are open to all ages. We sing a mixture of traditional hymns, modern worship songs, and discover new and exciting ways to praise God.

Bowdon Parish Church Choir

Our fine Choir, which has some 40 members, exists both to lead the congregational singing and to offer music in a range of styles from medieval to modern as an integral part of worship.
